By the ages of 10-12 years old, children with ADHD receive approximately 20,000 more negative comments than their peers without ADHD.* Messages like "you just need to apply yourself," "would you just pay attention?!" and "you just aren't trying hard enough, everyone has a little ADHD" can do real harm to the self esteem and self efficacy of those receiving these messages. Depression, anxiety, perfectionism, and chronic self criticism are, unfortunately, common in those living with ADHD.
Here, you will find support in challenging and re-writing the self-critical stories that so often come from being neruodivergent in a neurotypical world.
